West Virginia Natural Resources Police said a man was charged and fined after he snagged a more than 6-pound trout off a bridge posted with signs prohibiting fishing.
Police recently received a complaint from a sportsman fishing on Shavers Fork in Randolph County who saw a fisherman snagging trout from a bridge, according to a news release Thursday from Natural Resources Police.
Both bridges crossing the Lower Shavers Fork section of the river prohibit fishing from the bridge. |

The man was charged with unlawful method of fishing (snagging game fish), police said. He also will have to pay fines and court costs and a replacement cost of $140 for the fish.
Police said the rainbow trout he caught weighed 6.3 pounds and was 26 inches long.
“Anglers are reminded that is also a violation to fish from a bridge which has legally posted signs from the Division of Highways stating no fishing from the bridge,” police said in the Facebook post. |
