Roughly 40 brokers made bids for varieties including "ranchu" and "ryukin" using words unique to the industry as wooden boxes containing goldfish were streamed along a water channel in the auction house. The priciest goldfish was the "sarasa-wakin" variety, which fetched 10,000 yen (about $76) per fish. |
