Alaska salmon fishery cleared for Marine Stewardship Council recertification

An independent adjudicator this week said Alaska's salmon fisheries are eligible to proceed with reassessment to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) sustainable seafood standard, despite objections from environmental groups.
 

Several Canada-based environmental organizations filed objections in recent months prior to the fishery's recertification, arguing that non-selective net fisheries in Southeast Alaska were negatively impacting salmon and steelhead populations along the Pacific coast.
