The patin are gone: the freshwater war against suckermouth catfish

Five hundred suckermouth catfish, also known as ikan bandaraya, and one shark catfish or patin after six hours of netting – the catch obtained by volunteer hunters of suckermouth catfish shows the threat that the predator poses to freshwater ecosystems.
 

Originating from central and south America, suckermouth catfish prey on riverbed life and pose the “ultimate threat” to future generations of freshwater fish, according to volunteer hunter Heidi Shafiq Haidzir.
