Canadian solution to invasive species may be too drastic for Moosehead

Moosehead, Maine’s largest lake, is still a fabled cold water sport fishery. Landlocked salmon, lake trout and record-book eastern brook trout attract recreational anglers from around the globe.
 

For those of us who value the legacy and look to the future, the presence of an invasive species, smallmouth bass, in the lake is a disappointment and a source of concern.

If you like to fish, thank the next Algonquin you come across at the bait-and-tackle.

If not for that once-populous Native American tribe, the coming week would include giant rodent traps instead of rods and reels.
 

The names of most annual supermoons revolve around hunting. The next, Nov. 15 (next Friday), is generally known as the Beaver Moon, since it’s the time of year when those furry critters begin stocking up for the long winter ahead.
