Fishing scandal costs Lake Erie Walleye Tournament cheaters $100,000 boat

Most regard any reminiscing about the big one that got away as irksome, if not downright painful.

No, this isn’t about a particular fish, but it is about fishing. What got away is a 22-foot boat with trailer and two motors, a $100,000 ensemble forfeited a year ago by two Lake Erie walleye tournament anglers caught doing what they oughtn’t.
 

For reasons still somewhat inexplicable, the attempted cheating during a Cleveland-based competition in September 2022 drew worldwide attention. Likely, the fact that the actual moments of exposure were caught on video pumped up the social media box office that spans the globe.
