People fill bags as millions of tiny fish jump from sea onto North Wales beach

Beachgoers in Gwynedd were confronted with an extraordinary sight as “millions” of tiny fish began jumping from the sea. They had been chased to the Pwllheli shoreline by hungry mackerel, turning the shallows silvery white.
 

The bonanza was so great that people began collecting the still-live fish in bags to take home for supper. Others waded into the water and were said to have fished out small mackerel by hand.

Watching on was Ambra Burls, 69, who lives nearby and was taking a stroll with her partner. The retired academic was astonished. “I’m not talking thousands of fish, I’m talking millions,” she said
