A Scottish angler has opened up on his battle to reel in the world's largest skate fish ever caught. Hamish Currie snared the giant sea beast off the coast of Portrush, Northern Ireland, back in 2018.

He spent more than an hour on the once in a lifetime catch, grappling with the 8ft3in fish until his "legs were shaking". After 65 minutes, he finally hauled the monster on board his boat, Predator.

It had a mighty 7ft 'wingspan' and weighed in at 300lbs, cementing its place as the biggest ever Giant Common Skate recorded in the world. The previous record was held by a 208lb skate that was reeled in near the Isle of Skye in 2014.
