After decades spent haunting both British Columbia's Fraser River and the dreams of fishermen in the nearby town of Lillooet, a 650lb white sturgeon named Pig Nose has finally been caught.
The ten-foot-long monster has been the stuff of local legend for more than 40 years, thanks to its immense size and bizarre bulbous pink nose.
But on Tuesday it was hauled in for the first time - and Nick McCabe, the 19-year-old who brought it in, has become something of a local hero, Global News reported. |

Nobody knows the origins of Pig Nose or his distinctive 'snout,' but the gargantuan beast is believed to be around 80 years old, based on its size.
'His name is Pig Nose and you can see why - he damaged his nose 40 years ago,' explained Jeff Grimolfson, who works with McCabe at fishing tour company River Monster Adventures.
The beast 'has been the talk of fishing and sporting goods shops for years,' he added.
'As the legend lives on, you'd be in a sporting goods shop and you'd hear, "My buddy was sure he had Pig Nose on the line."' |
