Angler Teddy Carr Records Top-10 Finish In Weekend Bassmaster Tourney
GEICO pro angler Teddy Carr executed a perfect gameplan at Saturday's Bassmaster Weekend Series stop on the Potomac River, working the spawning fish and the tidal waters along the tributary to perfection and earning a season-best, top-10 finish with a full five-bass limit totaling 15.83 pounds.

"I found my fish Thursday in practice," Carr said. "There was a prevailing east wind and we're closing in on a full moon. The water was probably a foot and half above normal. The fish were looking to spawn and I found this little cove they would go to whenever the tide was up. It worked great, and that became my primary spot.

"I located another area for when the tide was out, and my strategy was set."

By the time the tournament started, Carr was chomping at the bit to get on the water.

"Most of the anglers in this division are very familiar with the Potomac River," Carr said. "It wasn't like anyone was going to run away with this thing. It was going to come down to a few ounces here and a few ounces there to determine who was going to be in the money and who was going to be left out.

"I narrowed my focus to that cove and used Excalibur XCS 100 crankbait and just started hauling them in. At one point I caught 25 fish in a single hour. I had my limit by 9:30 a.m. and that allowed me to go searching for bigger fish. I worked my secondary spot over grass with a YUM F2 weightless dinger and got a few more. I caught at least four limits worth in one day; that's almost unheard of. The fish were very active and it was a lot of fun."

The big finish lifted Carr from 47th to 17th in the season points, a nice jump for the Locust Grove, Va., angler.

"It was a nice rebound after our slow start on Lake Anna," Carr said. "The talent in this division is top notch so it's really important to maintain a solid ranking inside the top 40. That's the cutoff for regionals and the regionals are where you can make a lot of money, so we're all working towards that goal."

Fellow GEICO angler Christiana Bradley was mid-pack among the 103 boaters in attendance, pulling in three fish weighing 10.7 pounds, good enough for 66th overall.

Carr will have a little more than a month to prepare for his next event, another Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament, which takes place June 25 on the Potomac River.
