It's the talk of the fishing town.

A massive, aggressive species of fish from the Amazon was found recently in the Caloosahatchee River, and at least one local fishing guide wonders if there are more plying Southwest Florida waters.

"I’d bet there’s more," said fishing captain and guide Mike Smith of North Fort Myers, of the arapaima. "If there's one 5-feet swimming in the water, there are more. If anything I would think it would have come from the lake."

The fish was found by a Cape Coral boy, according to local news outlets.

Pictures and accounts of the fish were popular on Facebook this week after the incident was reported on some TV stations.
These fish grow to truly giant proportions, with some reaching 10 feet in length and weighing 400 pounds or more.

Florida's wilds have long been places of mystery and mystique, but this finding proves just about anything could be swimming somewhere in the Sunshine State.
