Volunteers try to save trapped fish in Italy

Tench, catfish and carp used to overwinter in the canals or pools of the Po tributaries such as Orchetto, where the water temperatures are higher than in the Po, were trapped in the shallow waters with a shortage of oxygen.

The absence of oxygen was caused by the high consumption of the fish themselves that are trapped in this channel, and not by chemical pollutants, as reported by Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (ARPA), which carried out initial analyses of water samples in laboratories.
