Исследователи случайно открыли необычное поведение у рыб, которые вынашивают мальков во рту

Самки рыб семейства цихлид вынашивают детенышей во рту сначала в виде икры, а затем в виде мальков. Исследователи из университета Центрального Мичигана обнаружили, что в случае стресса или недостатка калорий матери могут поедать до 40% своего потомства.
 

Во время своего наблюдения за поведением этих рыб, исследователи заметили, что во рту одной из самок цихлид отсутствует часть икринок. Традиционно рыба может держать во рту до 100 икринок, но у этой особи их было в четыре раза меньше. В результате наблюдения за этой и другими особями, ученые обнаружили, что рыбы поедают часть вынашиваемого потомства.
