Монгольский краснопёр для местных рыболовов и гостей Приамурья является хорошим спортивным трофеем. Обычный средний вес 1,0-1,5, кг. Иногда ловятся рыбы весом 2-2,5 кг и встречаются редкие особи до 5 кг веса. Такого гиганта ловил местный житель возле села Нерген с помощью донного амортизатора на искусственную мушку.

Местные рыболовы в простонародии называют монгольского краснопёра «жерехом» из-за схожести с западной рыбой. Но учёные ХБТИНРО жерехом амурским считают нашу амурскую «краснопёрку».
