Спутник «Ресурс-П» зафиксировал слой токсичной пены, покрывшей реку Ямуна в Нью-Дели. Загрязнение связано со сбросом неочищенных сточных вод, ежедневно поступающих в реку в объеме около 3,6 миллиардов литров. Содержавшиеся в сточных водах аммиак и фосфаты привели к образованию ядовитой пены, представляющей серьезную угрозу для здоровья: вещество может негативно влиять на дыхание и кожу.

Эти опасные выбросы совпали с подготовкой к празднику Чхатх Пуджа, на котором верующие традиционно окунаются в священные воды. Власти Нью-Дели уже начали распылять пеногасители на поверхности реки, чтобы минимизировать риски для населения.
