Sabah Marine Police (PPM) foiled fish bombing and diesel smuggling activities in the waters off Sibogoh island here.

Kudat commanding officer assistant superintendent Cyrill Douglas said, during sea patrols, marine police spotted a boat at around 11am yesterday.

However, he said, the suspect who noticed the marine police escaped to shallow waters before fleeing.

"While being chased, the suspect was seen throwing an object into the sea and upon inspection, it was found to be equipment believed to be used for fish bombing activities.

"The operations team also managed to seize dozens of barrels of diesel to be smuggled into neighbouring countries," he said in a statement today.

Cyrill said the value of the items were estimated to be RM19,450 based on the current market price.

He said all the confiscated items were taken to the PPM Kudat operations headquarters for further action.

"The case will be investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and the Control of Supply Act 1961," he said.
