For years, the Mobile Jaycees have proclaimed the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo to be the largest and oldest saltwater fishing tournament in the world. With Guinness Book of World Records judges on hand this year, they hope to prove it.

In order to make it happen, 78th Rodeo President Todd Bishop is encouraging everyone who buys a ticket -- even if they don't catch a weighable fish -- to come down to Dauphin Island over the July 15-17 weekend to be counted.

As part of the rodeo's prize package, every fisherman who weighs in a legal fish is automatically entered in a random drawing that awards one person a Contender boat package. Bishop said Guinness has agreed that the number of people who turn in these ticket stubs would be a valid way to meet its criteria of total participation.

Bishop said the Dauphin Island Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the "A Bad Day Fishing on Dauphin Island is Still a Great Day Unfortunate Soul Award." The winner of this random drawing will take home $500.
