На часто посещаемых водоемах крупный карась обычно держится вдали от берега. И ловить его приходится на донки или на удочки, предназначенные для дальнего заброса. В матчевой ловле существует множество нюансов. Специалисты так ловят карася с помощью тонких оснасток и специальной матчевой удочки.

Для карасевой ловли можно взять удилище длинной от 3,6 до 4,7 м.

Катушка должна быть компактная, легкая и иметь значительную скорость подмотки (желательна катушка с передаточным числом от 5,7:1 до 7,2:1); наличие грубой и плавной регулировки фрикционного тормоза позволяет во время вываживания изменять силу затяжки
