3 Cited for Illegally Netting 133 Game Fish; 110 Go to Needy
US Source: Associated Press 11/1/2022

Three Louisiana men are accused of illegally using cast nets to catch 133 game fish — 83 crappie, 18 black bass and 32 bream.

Two men from Baton Rouge and one from Denham Springs were cited after agents got a complaint about people using the nets in a canal near Ramah in Iberville Parish, the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said in a news release Tuesday.

Twenty-three of the fish were alive and released, and the other 110 were given to two needy families, enforcement spokesman Adam Einck said in an email.

Agents also confiscated the three nets being used on Oct. 22, the news release said.

If convicted, each man could be fined $400 to $950 fine and spend up to 120 days in jail. They could also be ordered to pay restitution totaling $581.24 — the value of the fish.
