1,700 EU fishing boats still plundering British seas says furious former Brexit MEP

Four years after the UK officially left the EU, the fishing community say they have been "stabbed in the back" thanks to unfulfilled promises.

After leaving the Brussels bloc in January 2020, the UK signed an agreement which was supposed to ensure EU vessels would return 25 percent of the value of fish caught in UK waters.
 

This deal was worth an estimated £145million per year to the British fishing industry by 2026 but has not materialised.

June Mummery, former Brexit Party MEP and the managing director of the Lowestoft-based fish market auctioneers BFP Eastern, told GB News: "We haven’t taken back control of our waters.
