Tragic loss for local community as iconic koi fish pond meets mysterious end

Twice a day for 30 years Roger, 92, tended to dozens of koi fish in the pond of his front yard in Sydney's north shore.

The pond was popular among Manly locals.

But now they're in mourning after his pond full of fish died in mysterious circumstances.

"The fish pond gave me someone to talk to any time I went out there hundreds of people a day were out there ... I don't suppose they will [be] now," Roger said.

The fish pond was so popular with the community that the fish's death was even covered by the local newspaper, with the Manly Observer calling it "a harrowing mishap".

And it's not the first time tragedy has struck.
