The dead fish found along the North Myrtle Beach shoreline pose no threat to human health or the environment, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control officials said Friday.

North Myrtle Beach officials found the Menhaden fish dead along the shoreline from 5th North, going north. Most fish were seen from Cherry Grove Pier to Sea Cabin Pier, said Pat Downling, spokesperson for North Myrtle Beach.

He added the city brought in a mechanized beach rake to remove the fish.

DHEC officials said they were notified by SC Department of Natural Resources (DNR) of a fish kill in Cherry Grove.

Officials said they responded to the scene and walked the beach. A concentration of dead fish was observed near the pier at 36 Avenue North in Cherry Grove.
