Randy Thurston, the angler that caught the fish, said he has been fishing for striped bass—the largest member of the sea bass family—since he was in his early 20s.
At first, he was catching fish measuring around 12 inches in length, which was enough to spark an obsession with the sport. |

Striped bass are huge fish that can reach lengths of up to 5 feet (60 inches) and weigh up to 77 lbs, according to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Fisheries department. They can also live for up to 30 years. |
