The sturgeon fishing has been epic on the West Delta out of Pittsburg.
Roger Mammon, president of the California Striped Bass Association West Delta Chapter, reported top-notch sturgeon action March 28 while fishing with Capt. Zack Medinas of Gatecrasher Fishing Adventures on a charter organized by the CSBA Isleton Chapter.
“I caught and released one oversized sturgeon measuring around 76 inches,” said Mammon. “It was a good, strong fish that jumped into the air three times. It took over 15 minutes for me to get it in.” |

The fish, like the other eight sturgeon caught and released, was fooled with salmon roe off Pittsburg in 50 feet of water. The anglers caught a total of four fish in the 40- to 60- inch legal slot length, two oversized sturgeon and three undersized fish.
Reny Nunag hooked and released the second biggest fish of the day, measuring 66 inches long. He also caught a 55-inch “slot” fish and a shaker. It was his first-ever trip for sturgeon — and it was an overwhelming success |
