Roger Mammon, president of the California Striped Bass Association West Delta Chapter, reported top-notch sturgeon action March 28 while fishing with Capt. Zack Medinas of Gatecrasher Fishing Adventures on a charter organized by the CSBA Isleton Chapter.

“I caught and released one oversized sturgeon measuring around 76 inches,” said Mammon. “It was a good, strong fish that jumped into the air three times. It took over 15 minutes for me to get it in.”

The fish, like the other eight sturgeon caught and released, was fooled with salmon roe off Pittsburg in 50 feet of water. The anglers caught a total of four fish in the 40- to 60- inch legal slot length, two oversized sturgeon and three undersized fish.

Reny Nunag hooked and released the second biggest fish of the day, measuring 66 inches long. He also caught a 55-inch “slot” fish and a shaker. It was his first-ever trip for sturgeon — and it was an overwhelming success
