The new frontier has been put in place by fishermen of many countries from the Mediterranean basin (Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey), with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM). Among its many responsibilities this Commission is responsible for monitoring and manage invasive species.
