The White House summit is to take place the first week of February, Michigan Public Radio reported.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to grant a temporary injunction closing the locks. The next day, U.S. Rep. David Camp, R-Mich., introduced the CARP ACT, an acronym for Close All Routes and Prevent Asian Carp Today, The Michigan Messenger said.
The legislation would order the closing of the locks and authorize the Army Corps of Engineers to take drastic measures to keep carp out of the lakes, including poison.
Asian carp are voracious feeders, and scientists fear they could destroy existing fish populations. They got into the Mississippi River and its tributaries as escapees from fish farms. |
