Дедка Марк был просто крестьянином, а потому всю жизнь держался земли и скотины. Но крестьянин Марк Тимофеевич Калинин был еще и рыбаком, ибо всю свою жизнь провел на берегу богатого рыбой северного таежного озера. Кроме нашего, общего для всех жителей деревушки озера, было у дедки Марка в личном пользовании и небольшое таежное озерцо, километрах в четырех от дома.

Там дедка держал для себя небольшой плот и оттуда доставлял к семейному столу рыбу, когда наше озеро почему-либо не слишком щедро расплачивалось данью со своими старателями-рыбаками.
