Indeed, the 7 million acre-feet of water the Delta provides each year supplies the Central Valley, the nation’s “greatest food resource,” as the New York Times put it, plus Southern California, which boasts the state’s biggest regional economy, and portions of the Bay Area.
The Delta also happens to be the habitat of a plethora of plant, mammal, fish, bird, amphibian, invertebrate and reptile “species of concern.” |
