The killer goldfish that can choke predators, walks on land and climbs TREES... and they're heading to Australia any day now

When a fish is described as being able to move across dry land, climb trees, and choke birds and other fish, you’d think the best place for it would be in Jurassic Park, but its next destination is Australia.

However its name, the climbing perch, hardly has the same ring as T-Rex and it chokes birds and other fish after being swallowed by them and their gills get caught in their throats.

But the unique and noxious fish can last for days or weeks on land as they have an air-breathing organ, while in drier times, they dig into the mud to survive.
 

The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries reports on its website that the fish can 'travel across land on their pectoral fins and, as their name suggests, may even climb trees'.

Although a freshwater species, they can live in briny water as well.

But worryingly latest research has shown that the fish has now reached the Torres Strait where it has overrun two Queensland islands' waterways.
