Risky Strategy Doesn't Pan Out For Bass Angler Bradley

GEICO angler Christiana Bradley got the weather conditions she wanted at Sunday's LAPR Bass Series Potomac River Bass Series event at Leesylvania Park, she just didn't get the fish.

"I got what I wished for as far as the weather goes," Bradley said. "It was a beautiful day. The conditions were great, and the fish were getting active, as I expected they would."

But a decision to seek a far-off spot to try to catch bigger fish didn't pay off, and Bradley and her husband Mike landed only one keeper in the one-day tournament.

"We sort of made a decision which kind of bit us," Bradley said. "It was one of those things we had to commit to where we wanted to fish because it was a long way away. It took a long time to get there, so we wasted a lot of time that we could've been fishing by going to this one particular spot."

The path to get to the spot was in a no-wake zone, so Bradley couldn't get her GEICO Bass Cat boat over six mph. Making the commitment to fish the spot took a lot of guts, and it could have paid off handsomely. But this time, it didn't work.

"We thought that was our best shot at getting a decent limit, and it didn't pan out," Bradley said. "We caught lots of short fish back there, but we did not catch anything at all that was a keeper in there. In hindsight, that was our regret."

Bradley will have a little more than a month to prepare for the next Bassmasters Weekend Series event, which takes place May 14 on the Potomac River.
