BERLIN, Germany -- Next year is set to be a big one for Russian Fishery Company (RFC), with pollock prices set firm, new plants and vessels on the way and expansion in crab likely coming soon, said top executive Fedor Kirsanov.

RFC is also starting to see the benefits of a reorganization which will see the company’s head office in Moscow closed and moved to Vladivostok in the Far East, where the main operations are based, Kirsanov told Undercurrent News during the 2019 Groundfish Forum in Berlin, Germany.

A big driver of the company’s strong 2019 has been the firm prices for pollock, which are expected to also be strong in 2020, with big changes to supply not expected and demand strong.

The headed and gutted (H&G) pollock prices (for benchmark 25cm fish) are currently at $1,650-$1,700 per-metric-ton, “even some deals above”, he said. “The H&G prices at the end of the year are higher than we expected. It’s a good situation for us.”

For next year, RFC expects H&G prices of around $1,400-$1,500 for the A season, and of $1,600-$1,700/t for B season.

Then, for pin-bone out (PBO) fillet blocks, RFC expects “prices of $3,600/t-plus”, he said. “This would be up a bit on B season of 2019, which was an increase of around $100-$150 on A season.”
