The number of anglers breaking sports fishing regulations has disappointed Central South Island Fish and Game rangers.

CSI Fish and Game’s compliance co-ordinator Hamish Stevens says close to one in 10 anglers checked by rangers have been found to be non-compliant.

With over five months of the sports fishing season completed, the organisation says 8 per cent non-compliance has been encountered by its ranging team.

CSI Fish and Game reported on Monday that since October 2021, 48 offenders from 592 anglers interviewed have been found with the most common offence detected being fishing without a valid sports fishing licence.
