Hendersonville man catches another monster fish on Old Hickory Lake by accident

Brian Burnett of Hendersonville recently caught his second huge smallmouth buffalo fish this year on Old Hickory Lake.

The last one, which Burnett caught in May, weighed 32 pounds. Burnett did not weigh this one because he wanted to get it back into the water as quickly as possible after snapping a photo, He said it was larger than the first one he caught.

He caught it basically the same way he did the last one while fishing for largemouth bass.

Burnett threw a lipless crankbait in Drakes Creek on Old Hickory Lake in about 4 feet of water when the monster took his bait.

Burnett was using 12-pound test line and it took about 15 minutes for him to get the fish into his boat.

The record in Tennessee for a buffalo smallmouth is 62 pounds, 7 ounces and was caught in 2001 on Percy Priest Lake by Jerry W. Young.
