The search for the so-called Frankenfish was launched last month after someone caught the creature on video. Snakeheads, which are native to fresh water in Russia and China, have few predators when fully grown and could pose a severe risk to B.C.’s wild salmon stocks if they reached the nearby Fraser River. Since it first appeared in the United States about a decade ago, the fish has caused major destruction of marine ecosystems. Snakeheads are capable of breathing oxygen and squirming short distances over land.
