Lake Volta tilapia farmers await government relief funds following flooding

Ghana’s tilapia farmers have been promised a share of the $40 million pledged by the government to alleviate the issues caused by the recent flooding in Lake Volta, but some experts argue that a radical overhaul of the country’s aquaculture strategy is what's really required.
 

The floods have caused more damage than initially estimated, and tilapia prices have already began a steady climb, as supply is not expected to begin recovery until the middle of next year. Farmers are keenly expecting relief funds from the government to help them resume production.
