Scientists discover extremely rare baby ghost shark: ‘We just don’t see them’

По словам ученых, акул-призраков почти невозможно разглядеть в дикой природе, а уж тем более — их детенышей. Этого малыша нашли специалисты Национального института водных и атмосферных исследований (NIWA) во время исследования вблизи возвышенности Чатем у Южного острова в Новой Зеландии.

В заявлении NIWA, опубликованном на их сайте, говорится, что «новорожденная или только что вылупившаяся глубоководная акула была поймана на глубине примерно 1200 метров на возвышенности Чатем».

Акул-призраки, также известные как химеры (или «крысиные рыбы»), вообще-то не являются акулами — на самом деле, они просто хрящевые родственники акул и скатов.
