When two best friends went on a fishing expedition, they weren’t expecting to bag a record-breaking carp, but that’s exactly what one of them did.
Paul Roberts, 47, and Richard Middleton, 39, were on their first visit to Le Graviers, near Dijon in France when they both landed huge catches.
The first surprise of the trip was when Mr Middleton netted an 83lb Brown Fish.
But his friend trumped this the next evening - by catching a world record 94lb Scar carp.
Mr Roberts, from Christchurch, Dorset, said his legs ‘turned to jelly’ after discovering what he’d caught. |

The thrilled boat builder, who has been fishing since he could walk, said: ‘As I was reeling it in, I saw what fish it was and then my legs turned to jelly.
‘Richard was made up with the Brown Fish and I was buzzing for him, but for me to step up the next night was unbelievable.
‘It took half an hour to get it in and was a bit of a nightmare but it was worth it in the end.
'That’s definitely the highlight of my fishing career.’
The pair managed to catch the two biggest fishes in the lake - run by Luke Moffatt - within 48 hours of arriving and just before the cold snap set in. |
