The river has been experiencing some low water flows recently. That coupled with the warm weather hasn’t been a good combination. However, while there hasn’t been any huge runs yet, places like the Douglaston Salmon Run at the river’s mouth has experience several noteworthy runs and some fish have been caught in the lower river, downtown and the ball park area. Shane Muckey, of Altmar Oufitters, said anglers he has spoken with at his cleaning station say the bite is best from sunrise to about 9 a.m. each day and then just dies off. Once the sun is up and the temperatures rise, the fish settle into the deep pools and are hard to catch, he said.
