Portuguese able to fish cod in Canadian waters

Speaking to journalists at the end of a meeting between European Union (EU) countries' leaders and the fisheries department, in Brussels, the Secretary of State for Fisheries, Cláudia Monteiro de Aguiar, said that the result of the negotiations was “quite positive ” for Portugal.

Specifically, Portugal will be able to fish “an additional 561 tons” of fish in 2025, bringing the total quota to 18,419 tons, which is equivalent to “a monetary increase of 2.8 million euros”.

Quotas have increased, for example, in fishing for North Atlantic swordfish, monkfish and rays, which provides more opportunities for fishermen, said the Secretary of State.
