Lamprey numbers up in the Great Lakes after pandemic bump

Abundances of invasive sea lamprey in the Great Lakes remain above target levels following reduced control measures during the COVID pandemic, say fishery managers.

According to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, 2024 is the third year with higher average lamprey numbers in each lake — although the bi-national body says the trend is flattening thanks to resumption of normal treatment levels.
